Re: 12th S.C. Infantry Regiment CSA

Hi, That's very possible. I am also aware that my direct ancestors might have changed their surnames from Locklear to Lockley. They were not wanted men,but family history says we originated in Robeson Cty,NC which is mostly Lumbee indian territory. There is a big connection between the Lockley & Locklear families of that county going back over 250 years. All Locklears are tribal members.(a huge tribe within a tribe). It's possible my ancestors were trying to hide their indian heritage,so they changed their surname to Lockley so not to be connected so much to that prominent Lumbee family. Lochlan might just be another alias. I also think that some Locklears became Locklar,Locklin & Lochala. My ggrandfather,Vernon H. Lockley, was born in Robeson Cty.(1826) and his youngest son,Eli B. Lockley, was living in S.C. and disappeared after 1862. Thanks for your insight. Regards,Charles Lockley.
