This is a quote from a ms. awaiting publication about the war in SC in March 65

"Captain T. B. Jeter, operated in Sherman's path of destruction. By March 9, he had "already killed half a dozen of the worst [freedmen] … disarmed a few, whipped twenty-five, and by legal trial, hanged one threatening to murder a certain gentleman and rape a certain lady."
