I am trying to establish if John I. Middleton, Quartermaster of the 15th South Carolina Regiment, is John Izard Middleton, son of plantation owner John Izard Middleton, who owned 530 slaves (per the 1860 census it is reported) and who signed the Ordnance of Secession. A John Izard Middleton from Georgetown, SC graduated from South Carolina College in 1853 with an Arts degree - was this the elder or the junior? The 1860 census should provide some answers. I also found a documented land sale completed in 1878 by John Izard Middleton from Georgetown County.
