Re: Holcombe Legion Infantry in 1864-65

William McIlwain enlisted in Co. F of the Holcombe Legion at Abbeville on August 4, 1863. He left a wife and newborn son to go and fight for the South. I think he waited until his wife delivered to join. William was captured at Jarrett’s Depot on May 8, 1864 and sent to Elmira POW camp in New York. He died at Elmira (Hellmira) on January 2, 1865 in the midst of one of the coldest winters on record for that area. I have a image of his wife holding his picture in uniform. Can't make out much of his uniform but I have always wondered what happened to that image.
