My best. Question marks in parenthesis were added by me to indicate words or letters I could not decipher or be certain about. perhaps others can make a better interpretation of some that I missed. BTW I believe "heable" is "able" with an accent based on it's context. I think "remais" should be "remains" but I typed it like I saw it.

after my best respects to you I will enforme you that I am well at this time and doing tolarble well I have no very good news to write to you we have had some fighting here in the past week My regiment was engage with the enemy last wendsday we lost 18 or 20 men in all killed wounded & missing only six killed (orrs?) regiment was in the fight on thursday & they got pretty baddly cut up Lt Col Hadden was killed and several others was kill & wounded G(?) C Craig & John Craig & Warren Moss(?) was wounded
I was not in the fight for the first time that I have ever missed My mare is not able to do dewty & I am in the rare(reere?) I think she will be heable in a few days I receiveed your letter & was glad to hear from you we had an elecsion yestard the men was letterd(?) & the vote was small for clerk Wm(?) Bowen 17 J.E. Hagood 13 F. (?) Gorbin 2 for sheriff G.C. craig 3v J (?) Heady(?) 1 for Taxcollector W. N(?) Craig 13 Herridan 12 Chasteen 1 Gester 2 nothing more only remais(?) yours with respect
