Re: South Carolina 1st. Cavalry

Mr. Martin, I am rather confused about Jesse A. Gladden, I received some papers from the La. Library and they show J.A. Gladden/Jesse A. Gladden to have served in Company G, 6th S.C. Infantry, as a Musician for Dec. 1861 at a Camp in Va, and transferred to band in June, and on extra duty, July 1861 learning music. Shows him in C.S.A. hospital in Charlottesvile, Va. and had Thyroid and furloughed Nov. 5, 1861, returned 1861 to 6th Reg. South Carolina Vols., transferred to Co. B under Capt. J.M. Moore's Co. (Pickens Gurads).
Then the papers show he was in the 1st. S.C. Cavalry. Co. D.

According to these papers, he served in two units.
