Preston, last paid June 30, 1862, died from Chronic Diarrhoea September 17, 1862 in the Greenville District, S. C., his mother Nancy Terry filed for settlement of his accounts April 23, 1863

Benjamin F. Terry, Private, Company C, Laurens’ Battalion, South Carolina Infantry, enlisted December 2, 1861 at Columbia, S. C. by Col. John S.Preston for 1 year, on extra daily duty as Teamster/Waggon Driver/Waggoner in Q. M. Department from May 13, 1862, transferred to Division Supply Train as Teamster February 28, 1864, admitted Episcopal Church Hospital, Williamsburg, Va July 15, 1864, Diarrhoea Chronic, 28 years old, born in and resident of Laurence, S. C., furloughed for 30 days July 19, paroled at Appomattox Court House, Va., April 9 1865

The 3rd was also known as Laurens’ and as James’ Battalion South Carolina Infantry.
