Long term research interest in SC units all inclusive, but also had a number of ancestors in the 4th SC Cav, amoungst others so had a bit more data on that one.

The old Squadron format structure can be a difficult one to figure out at times. Its a carry over of old pre-war era habits. Some parts of SC were known for still using what was by then long obsolete organizational structures and ranks. Mostly only encountered in the earlier war smaller battalions. Tweeked and parts thereof adopted to the whim or desire at the time. So unfortunately there wasnt a single designed rule of thumb that could be applied to all. Each one frequently found to be slightly different, and/or evolved and changed due to need at the time frame. So if you find information of the squadrons in one unit, the next might or might not be the same. Then of course most of that system disappeared when the early battalions were consolidated into regiments. Companies/Regiments became the main force structure of favor, fading out the Company/Squadron-Troop/Battalion format.
