way behind on this thread! for years in understood that my gggf William Beery Holcombe was in the 2nd SC.....now, after more knowledgeable help at the greenville sc library i know he was in the 16th SC Infantry...i wish i had know this during the 30+ years i lived in Acworth Ga. since the 16th fought practically in my backyard! has any information surfaced on the 16th's uniforms?
i'd like to know what the started out with, what was issued while in and around Charleston and of course what was issued in the western theater. Les Jensen's work has been great for background information but i'm looking for quartermaster Returns to maybe determine uniforms, equipment, and weapons that were issued. if there is an online resource for Returns i would greatly appreciate being pointed in their direction. i'm only an hour from Columbia so I could go there as well.
