Capt. McCann of Gary's Brigade

On April 5th near Clemmentown, a group of twenty straggling cavalrymen and a couple of hundred infantry found themselves under Secretary of War Breckinridge. A rumor arrived that Union cavalry was heading towards Ewell's wagon train. The cavalry were placed under a drunken officer named Capt. McCann from Gary's Brigade and they went to look for the Yankee cavalry. McCann launched a mounted charge on an empty wood. Meanwhile the Union cavalry under Davies struck the wagon train but was driven off by Gary's Brigade. For this account see A Borderland Confdderate
