I'm not aware of any earlier raids on the S.C. coast, so the first captures on Carolina soil would undoubtedly been at Hilton Head. A separate category might also be vessels which were engaged in privateering. Didn't the Federal Navy capture a privateer out of Charleston in the ewarly days of the war, take them back to Boston, and threaten to hang them as pirates?
