Benjamin Hammett Teague, called "Hammett," which was his mother's maiden name. He enlisted in B/Hampton Legion Mounted Infantry at Columbia, S.C. 1 Apr 64, and was paroled at Appomattox. His family had refugeed to and was living in Edgefield at the time of the war. After the war he returned to Edgefield, and studied dentistry under Horace Parker, an Edgefield dentist who had served with Teague during the last year of the war. He graduated from Philadelphia Dental College in 1873, and married Julia Ann Parker, Horace's daughter the same year. The Teagues settled in nearby Aiken sometime shortly after his marriage, where he lived and practiced dentistry until the end of his life. In 1883-84 he was President of the S. C. Dental Association, an organization he had helped to form. He was editor of the S. C. Dental Proceedigns from 1905 to 1920. He died in Aiken 27 Feb 1921, but is buried in Magnolia Cemetery, Charleston.
