Hi Steve, I don't subscribe to Morgan tunneling out. Rather I believe like many others it was a bribe in the form of gold. Wanting to protect the folks who made his escape possible Morgan would later say he tunneled out of the State Pen in Columbus. Morgan escaped in November 1863 if my memory is correct. It would make more sense if Cunningham was at the Camp Chase Prison and not the Columbus, Ohio State Pen.
