I have just read about Jack Hayes and the battle of Walker's Creek. What a man he was! And the men with him. Like I said in my posting, I know the Confederacy needed all the men she could get but Texas already had a deadly foe on their frontier. Even if most of the force left behind was older men, if they were of the caliber of Jack Hayes, they were indeed men to be reckoned with. Regards, James.
