On 5/16/1861 he mustered into "C" Co. VA 11th Infantry
He was discharged for , furnished substitute on 3/8/1863

He was listed as:

* Absent, sick 8/15/1862 (place not stated)

I must be missing something. I see where he was buried in Oakwood Cemetery "by a colored man." Does it say William was colored ?
