Re: Some trouble with Mississippi history

LOL LOL LOL

Dennis as always I get a kick out of your posts. Right now I am laughing so hard I can hardly think!!!!

Yes you are correct about the Confederate unit. I do agree with you. You have got the history pegged.

"I don't comprehend how you folks in the great State of Mississippi can understand all of this and just say we understand? If I lived in Union County, Mississippi and liked history I probably would know about the history but for someone in Rankin County, just to throw out a name I'd be lost"

Most, not all of us know a bit about local history, so the conflicting names are easy to keep straight. As I said before I was born in either Walthall Co. orold Pike Co depending on the age of the family member you are talking to.

And it gets worse-- In 1967 they spilt our sophomore class (Gulfport Commodores) to make another High School-- Gulfport East (Vikings). Now sometime in the late '70s or early '80s they closed down Gulfport High. Gulfport East became known as Gulfport High Admirals. At present there is a junior high known as the Gulfport Commodores, s with the same colors as my old high school. Now the Admirals use a combination of colors from the Commodores and the Vikings and the alma mater is the same with just a change of colors. When I am talking to younger folks I have to give them a history lesson before I tell them who I played football for!!!

Gulfport and Biloxi took in several small towns as they were expanding. Ask someone directions and they may tell you go to Handsboro or Mississippi City, both no longer exist.

If you understand that, please explain it to me!!! My gosh and I am a native!!!!!!

Oh yeah have you ever heard of the Confederate Fort, Fort Massachusetts, on Ship Island? Let's don't get into that yet!!!! LOL LOL LOL
