Some trouble with Mississippi history

The following came from the City of Verona, Mississippi web page.

In 1857 a survey crew for the G M & O Railroad chose the location for the current railroad and construction began. The Town of Verona was founded where the Richmond and Pontotoc road crossed the railroad on land that belonged to John Ratliff. John Ratliff’s daughter named the town from a city in Italy. Many of the residents of Richmond, Camargo, Palmetto, and City Point moved to Verona because of its location on the railroad. In July 1860, Verona became the first chartered Town in Lee County. Verona has been a town of many churches and schools.

The last sentence in the above paragraph is totally incorrect in my opinion.

Lee County, Mississippi did not exist until October 26, 1866 when it was craved from parts of Pontotoc and Itawamba Counties in Mississippi.

The mistake had led to other mistakes, for example Company E of the 41st Mississippi on a genealogy site said that many soldiers from Company E ie the "Verona Rifles" had soldiers from Lee County, Mississippi.

If city officials in Verona can't get their history correct or at least better worded others will continue to copy the mistakes.
