Jewell, Private, Company K, 10th Virginia Infantry, enlisted March 17, 1862 at Luary for the war, absent without leave May 23 to June 29, 1862, absent without leave November 22 through years end, present at February 27, 1863 muster, absent without leave June 10 to August 14, admitted Receiving and Wayside Hospital, Richmond, Va. November 29, 1863, transferred next day to Chimborazo Hospital, Catarrh [sp?], returned to duty December 6, receipted for an issue of clothing 1st Quarter, 1864, signing with an ‘X’, “his mark,” captured at Spottsylvania C. H. March 12, 1864, released from Point Lookout, Md. prison to join United States service May 28, 1864, transferred to Elmira, N.Y. July 30, 1864, his file has a record of Court Martial, G. O. No. 2-1, Dept. of N. Va-Lee, January 28,1865, no further records
