Confederate Flag designer

Nicola Marshall, Marion, Ala., as the designer of the first Confederate flag. The tablet was presented to the state by the women of the Alabama division of the United Daughters of the Confederacy. Jean Hopkins, Montgomery, a great-granddaughter of Mrs. Napoleon Lockett, Marlon, who suggested the design of stars and bars to Marshall, unveiled the memorial. The flag Was raised first on the capitol here March 4, 1861, following its adoption by the Confederate congress.
