Social Securty Numbers and Confederates

Another possible source for confirming Confederate soldiers can be used by finding their children's Social Security Numbers. This method was used with success while trying to find the correct name for a Confederate soldier who had died in 1864. His son's Social Security application in May of 1937 carried the name of his father and mother and his place of birth and date of birth. This helped to confirm who his parents were.
