Re: James Owen(s) of McDowell County, NC.

Dad was just a kid out of high school in 1944. It was all but over when he got there. He always recalled what a sergeant told them as they were completing their combat training, "you'll be so far up on the front, you'll be building roads for the Germans to retreat on" !

My Dad's older brother was a combat infantryman in Europe, twice wounded, last time in the Battle of the Bulge. He never talked a lot about it.

My wife's dad was a combat engineer. Got over there in 1943. Served under Patton. Saw a lot of nasty stuff and won a purple heart.

I salute your uncle and your ancestor ! Revolutionary War ?
