James Owen(s) of McDowell County, NC.

Below is an application for a Confederate pension to the State of North Carolina by James Owen(s) of McDowell County, NC. He was a “free person of color”, conscripted into the Confederate Army and served in the “pioneer corps” from the summer of 1864 to the end of the war. There is also a witness from the same county that verifies James' service and writes a letter saying he was conscripted at the same time
