Years ago I was generously offered a chance to read a detailed letter by a Union soldier on this raid. They suffered too. They didn't take into account how much it floods in South Mississippi when it rains in Dec. Confederates stopped them at Leaksville. Newt never mentioned this raid nor did the Union forces mention the Free State of Jones.
