An unopened letter

While at the NARA in DC I was looking through Record Group 94 when I found an unopened letter dated in 1869. I took the letter to the front desk and ask to look at it and showed them where it had never been opened. After awhile and talking they decided to open it and I eagerly waited to read the letter. The one page letter itself was in perfect condition and it looked in a way that the ink had not yet dried. The texture of the letter was very smooth The letter however was much to do about nothing. It was from a Union junior officer explaining that he would be a couple of days late in reporting to his new duty station. Needless to say his superior never received the letter.
