Several of the regiments captured at Donelson were first sent to Terre Haute and held at the Williams Hog Barn for a few months before being sent on to Camp Morton. A grandfather was shot in the forehead by some unknown party from outside the walls. He lived but the wound killed him 20 years later. Another grandfather died from a disease contracted at Camp Douglas after capture at Arkansas Post. I have a very low opinion of Terre Haute and Chicago to this day. Call these places for what they really were..."Extermination Camps."
