Re: A nice suprise this morning

Dennis you are a prince for your kind offer. I live in Hall County and Gainesville,Ga.is the county seat. I'm sure I would have a ball with the fellows that continue to search for clues concerning our Civil War ancestors. However, my vision is so poor that I cannot recognize the features on a individual's face.from 20 feet away.

Considering that I have been ridden hard and put up wet, I expect yo endure a few frailties. I consider myself blessed to be in as good a shape that I am, most of my generation are deceased.

A big problem in aging is the fact that you have to visit a cemetery to commune with your relatives and friends. I am 0ver 87 years of age and intend to go at least an additional 30 years. Hopefully long enough to see Confederate heritage stop being bashed and no longer hear that the Civil War was over slavery.

There is a national monument in Washington D.C. honoring WWII veterans,
and I was offered a free flight, free meals, and 2 nights lodging with a WWII retiree as a personal escort, and declined because I would not know anyone and would likely would not be familiar with their conservation.I know that you are researching a Civil War Prison, Camp Chase if I recall, General John Hunt Morgan made at least two raids behind Confederate lines. The 13th/16th Battalion Georgia Calvary, my ancestor, George C. Vandiver served with Morgan's Calvary..

I know that at one time General Morgan and some of his staff were captured but escaped and made it back into the south to lead another raid into Ohio.My research shows that my GG Grandfather was likely present on these raids.

According to family lore, George C. Vandiver was visiting a niece, reached into his purse, showed some gold coins, and said that they came from a bank that they robbed in Kentucky.

Do you have any record of General Morgan or any of his men that has come up in your research?

Myy mother died within the past five years at the age of 101 and died in the home where she had lived over 60 years. My father died in 1967 and mother was a widow for 45 years and continued to live alone in her home except for her last 2 years. During that period a brother, George, who had his own business hired a 24 hour daily companion and she was very happy.

My goal is to reach the age of 115. Why not!!! medical science has improved greatly in the last ten years so I feel that an 15% increase in my life span is an attainable goal.
