Blue Confederates

Like most of us I've heard of a lot of stories concerning the WBTS. Some of these off the wall tales are nothing but and I was ready to classify this story as one of them until I checked further and there might be some truth to it? I ran across a fella who claimed he saw a papa smurf in Kentucky and then I remembered another gentleman from Kentucky long before the internet who claimed there were blue Confederates from Kentucky. I've heard of the Blue Grass State but this sounded ridiculous.

It does appear that such a family does exist. Using google enter Blue people of Kentucky. It appears to be a rare skin condition that belongs to the Fugate families from Troublesome Creek Kentucky located around Breathitt County. Looking at the Civil War Database I did see numerous names of the surname Fugate from Breathitt County who had served in the Confederate Army.

It's still hard to imagine a blue skinned Confederate but it does open the door for this possibility.
