Why celebrate the 4th?

For many years after the War most southerners did not celebrate the 4th of July as Independence Day. Do we need to celebrate Today?

The date originally marked the Independence from England of a country which failed in 1787 with the failure of the United States under the Articles of Confederation. The Constitution was superceeded in its outline of Governmental powers (As we have seen) with the defeat of the southern Confederacy in 1865, Which established the Federal Goverment as the supreme power instead of the people.

With recent laws and supreme court rulings even the illustion of living under a Constitualional Government is Gone. Our present Government does not regard the Constitution as limiting it in any manner. So why celebrate the 4th Of July?
