Re: Heritage Violated In Alabama

Why don’t you try this on these History Buffs?

I like to tell folks that they’re focusing on the wrong flag. Remember, that slavery was legal from the founding of the United States until the 13th Amendment was ratified December 6, 1865. Relativley unknown, Section 9, Article 1 of the Constitution of the United States stated “No Migration or Importation of such Persons as any of the States now existing shall think proper to admit, shall not be prohibited by the Congress prior to the Year one thousand eight hundred and eight . . . .” That is, the Slave Trade shall not be abolished during the next 30 years!

Slavery legally existed under the Stars and Stripes for almost 90 years.

The Confederacy was formed in 1861 and disappeared in 1865, a total of 4 years in which the Confederate flag existed. Coincidentally, slavery was still legal in the United States flying the Stars and Stripes during the period of the Southern Confederacy.

I contend that these folks should venerate the Confederacy for their existence, which resulted in the abolition of slavery in North America in a relative short period of time!
