Yes Edward, I suppose most men signed that oath under duress. In "The Legacy of Ft. Donelson", a Yankee officer states that when they killed a partisan, they almost always found an oath in their clothes. He went on to say that he would not trust them if they signed the oath forty times. That warms my heart.
