Re: Innovations during the Civil War

The first use of a tank (a large cannon, heavily armored, mounted on a tracked vehicle) in combat was by the Confederate Army in 1862. You won't find that in any of the history books, but there it is. And apparently the inventor (?) of this tank was none other than Robert E. Lee. At any rate, he was the man who had the idea put into physical reality.
