Re: Confederate Memorial Day
In Response To: Re: Confederate Memorial Day ()

Dennis, I think it is the same problem elsewhere. Too many Southerners are apathetic and many young people have no interest in history. Liberals and racists have succeeded in convincing the public that Confederates were evil and hardly any politicians who know better have any guts to do something. The Democrat woman lives in Austin and the unfortunate young man grew up in Austin. I have lived in Austin and it has an uber-liberal culture that does not tolerate critical thinking.
Along with some other people (who knows how many) I contacted my gutless Congressman and asked him to oppose TX HB1242.
This is what they want:

SECTIONA1.AASection 662.003(b), Government Code, is amended
to read as follows:
(b)AAA state holiday includes only the following days:
(1)AA[the 19th day of January, "Confederate Heroes

Confederate heroes; -----
DELETED
2)]AAthe second day of March, "Texas Independence
Day";
(2)A[(3)]AAthe 21st day of April, "San Jacinto Day";
(3)AAthe second Monday in May, "Civil War Remembrance
Day," in honor of the men and women who served during the Civil War
;
(4)AAthe 19th day of June, "Emancipation Day in Texas,"
