Joe, Some of Morgan's men were sent for exchange from Camp Douglas to Point Lookout in early March of 1865. A few of Morgan's junior officers were sent to Johnson's Island. It depended upon the time frame and place where the soldiers were initially taken prisoners. A good amount of them were taken to Kemper Barracks in Cincinnati and then transferred to various points. Bennett H. Young himself had came back to Columbus, Ohio to give a speech at a Camp Chase memorial for the dead around the turn of the century. It stands today of one of the more eloquent speeches ever made at Chase. Young himself had been a private in Company B of the 8th Kentucky Cavalry and talked about his comrades suffering at Chase and their cries for help. He gave such a grand speech that he was invited back the following year to Chase.

Kentucky did not allow former Confederate officers to live in that State for a couple of years following the war. Young went overseas to receive his education and became a lawyer and became an author and was the Confederate Veterans Commander during the 50th reunion at Gettysburg in 1913.

Morgan's men were some of the best soldiers the South had to offer in my opinion. I am of the opinion also that Morgan did not escape through the sewer as some people believe or by tunnel. I subscribe to the opinion that it was a bribe made by some of the wealthy southern minded people of Columbus. Morgan never disclosed how he really escaped because doing so would have placed the folks who had helped him in harms way. Stanton may have had them hanged. Years after the war the story came to light and archives material at the Ohio Historical Society even listed those who were to thought have helped Morgan escape. But I'll admit the story of digging your way out sounds more exciting.
