My wife and I lived in Penn many years ago and visited the Fredricksburg battlefield and museum, and I recall seeing the statute. There are several instances were Confederate soldiers and Yankee soldiers assisted their enemy during and after the battle was over.

I would venture to speculate that during WWII and the Korean conflict that the enemy and U.S forces assisted each other when circumstances on the battlefield or high seas brought them together. I have read of instances when sailors from a torpedoed U.S. ship were rescued by the Japanese, because a few U.S. Sailors and airmen were POWs of the Japs and German Armed forces.
In all probability there were German and Japanese sailors and airmen held by U.s. and allied forces.

Man's inhumanity to man is sometimes temporarily forgotten during wartime.
