David, really appreciate your efforts ! You probably already know Union County, North Carolina honored nine other Black Confederates with a memorial at the same time as the better known Weary Clyburn. ALL ten of these men received pensions from North Carolina. After reading of the experiences of only a few of these men, I cannot understand the arrogance and condescending attitude of those who say "they weren't really soldiers." or "a pension doesn't make a soldier."
