Re: Pvt. Samuel F Williams 12th NC Co. ?I?

It appears that the stated date of his Medical Discharge of April 15, 1863 is in error, it occurring in 1864. There is nothing in his record to explain his disability. His whereabouts from May 1862 to his discharge April 1863 is a mystery.

Private Samuel F Williams, Company I, 12th North Carolina Infantry was recorded at the Huguenot Springs, Va. hospital October 1, 1862 having being attached September 7, admitted General Hospital No. 10, Richmond, Va. December 20, 1862, admitted Camp Winder Hospital, Richmond December 29, 1862, returned to duty January 27, 1863, recorded present at his companies muster of March 1, 1863, last paid February 28, on the May/June 1863 muster roll he was recorded absent, sick in hospital since about April 15, transferred from Receiving and Wayside Hospital and admitted Chimborazo Hospital, Richmond, April 18, 1863, transferred and admitted CSA General Hospital, Danville, Va. April 20, 1863, complaint Dyptheria, receipted for an issue of clothing May 21, 1863, deserted from hospital May 22, 1863, recorded on the March/April, 1864 muster roll as discharged on Surgeon’s Certificate of Disability April 15, 1863 [sic], paid April 16, 1864, $282.81*
