Based on the 1885 Florida census, he could have been taken for White and perhaps claimed as such. It sure looks like these two are the same.

If he was 18 on enlistment in 1861, he should not have been discharged after his 12 months obligation as he would have been of Conscription age. Perhaps, the authorities discharged him as a non-white. It notes in the literature that ill health was the reason for discharge. Who knows?

His 10 CSMR cards are hardly readable.
