Re: Wiley B. Mosley : "Free Man of Color?"

Thanks Miles, Wiley is shown "enlisting," or "reporting as ordered," (I really believe he was a conscript) to the Confederate Army in Knoxville, April 8, 1863. he is present and on the roll until Jan. 25, 1864, he's paid $44.00 for three months service. He then disappears from Confederate records. He next enlists on Feb.1,1864 at Bull's Gap, Tennessee in Company C Union 4th Tennessee. he described there as 5' 8," dark hair, dark complexion, brown eyes. He is present & on the roll till he deserts on Aug.31, at Kingston, Tennessee. He has returned by Nov-Dec. 1864. The charge of desertion is dropped from his record, and he musters out at Nashville, August 25, 1865. Wiley drew a Federal pension for his service.

I have his parents being, Richard Mosley and Lucinda Waller. His death certificate says he was born in Sullivan County, Tennessee. He died in Greene County, Sept.23, 1922. Have never found him in the 1850. In 1900, He and his 2nd wife, Mary, have a 17 year-old son named, Walter, and a 14 year-old daughter, Lola. His 49 year-old sister, Lucinda also lives with them. He and Mary are buried at Liberty Hill, Church, in Greene County, Tn.
