John E. Clark, age 23, Private, Captain Utt’s Company, 3rd Regiment Virginia Cavalry,* joined for duty and enrolled November 1, 1862 at Camp Willie, Virginia for 3 years, deserted December 23, 1862 near Strasburg, captured at Strasburg January 13, 1863, paroled at City Point, Va. February 9, reported at Camp Parole, Md. February 10, present with paroled prisoners at College Green Barracks, Annapolis, Md. at their Jan/Feb, 1863 muster, reported at Camp Chase, Ohio March 22, committed suicide at Camp Chase, Ohio April 4, 1863, 23 year old Farmer, born in Ohio County, Virginia, hazel eyes, dark hair, light complexion, 5’ 9”, while at Camp Chase he was a member of Company C, 2nd Battalion Paroled Cavalry

* This organization subsequently became Company D, 3rd Regiment West Virginia Cavalry
