Hello George, Yes the obituary was incorrect in this account and also if you will notice person who put up the obituary had the incorrect date with the newspaper the Newark Advocate as they listed it as 1913. It should have been 1918. I did research on this soldier a long time ago and I want to say he had duty with the 2nd South Carolina Cavalry at one time.

Although he died in Columbus, Ohio he lived in Newark, Ohio about thirty miles east of Columbus. There was a UCV chapter in Columbus, Ohio during his time in Ohio but I was unable to verify that he was a member. By 1916 the ranks were slim for former Confederates living in Ohio.
