Don't forget Presidents Andrew Jackson's illegal use of force (the United States Army) to threaten the People of South Carolina during the Nullification Crisis of 1832. The exact same pattern was repeated by Lincoln during the Secession Crisis of 1861 at Fort Sumter.

As for Jackson and Lincoln and the Suppreme Court, we have only to look at the actions of our own Supreme Court of today to see how really powerless the courts are without willing compliance. As Adolf Hitler said about the Pope in Rome during WW II, How many Divisions does he command? Without the power of arrest against violaters of the Constitution there is no real restrain against such violations. Our Constitutional Government has been a sham since the time of Jackson and Lincoln. The Constitution is only obeyed when men of honor uphold it and are restrained by it principals.

Also let us not forget Woodrow Wilson during WW I and Franklin D. Roosevelt in WW II who ordered the imprisonment of otherwise free people for simple being of another ethnic group (German and Japanese). So far in the history of our country we have had at least 5 of our 44 Presidents act as a totalitarian with a weak or compliant Congress. That is a better than a 10% average, not saying that the other 90% were any better behind closed doors.
