Re: The Battle of Fort Pelow

"Forrest's attack on Fort Pillow uncovered a extensive fraud ring within the U.S. Army. The white officers of this post were ordered months earlier to abandon the fort by General Sherman and return their troops to Memphis. But his order was ignored. Why? These guys were making a mint stealing slaves, putting uniforms on them and forging documents stating they had been bought through the bounty system. The officers were falsifying the names of the slaves and making up the names of the owners and pocketing the bounty money for themselves. Forrest heard the complaints from the local Unionist slave owners, victims of this scam, and made a detour in his raid into Tennessee to shutdown this illegal operation."

Can I see some more for this?

And some source info?
