This is from an article in the Weekly Advocate (Baton Rouge, LA) of August 8, 1868, entitled "The Battle of Baton Rouge"-

"Many of the citizen soldiery of West Baton Rouge, the city of Baton Rouge and the Florida parishes served in this battle and the names
of all that is furnished us will be given in a subsequent article.

The militia of East and West Feliciana were out under Col. Hardee and were posted on the Plank road, near town, but with the exception
of individual squads, did not participate....The militia of West Baton Rouge were out in full numbers, but from their isolated position could
not engage in the fight. They stood shelling from one of the fleet like veterans."
