Fox's Regimental Losses list the losses for Alabama as 742 killed in battle or died of wounds, and 724 died of disease.

I have documented the losses for only one regiment (ALABAMA had-- 55 regiments, and 11 battalions of infantry; 5 regiments of cavalry; 3 regiments of partisan rangers; and 16 batteries of light artillery), the 5th Alabama Infantry Regiment, and this one regiment had 257 men killed in battle, or die from their wounds, with another 284 that died from disease! One regiment accounts for a third of Fox's numbers. Of course he did acknowledge that his Confederate numbers were grossly low.

I have no trouble believing the total losses from the war exceed 750,000.
