Ya know? A few of us have been trying to find out just what they're going to do but so far, we have turned up a big fat nothing. I'm sort of thinking that's why Bowden wrote that 'gentle' reminder that we were in fact part of the action. I'm hoping I'm wrong but I'm getting the impression it's not going to be big, whatever they decide. I need to talk to someone in the SCV here and try to pin down an answer. I have his number somewhere on my desk. Our most vocal opponant from the civil liberty side passed away a few months ago. He was a very nice man, but he was also the spoon holder for the pot when it needed stirring. I'm hoping there's not a replacement yet.

We are going through some very ugly stuff on the local level at this time and I have a feeling that no one wants to give another ammo for an argument. If nothing is done, it's one heck of a teaching moment wasted. Our anniversary with Spain was last year and the King and Queen came to see us. I believe the local leaders are using that as leverage for their 'we do celebrate our history' speech. Most of us are still complaing about the money spent on a statue of DeLuna when it could have gone to restoration of some historic buildings. With all three forts, (I'm taking out no longer existing McRee and adding Redoubt) under Federal guidelines I would hope there is something more than a reading of the EP. If they do that, I promise, I will throw up.

I'm also talking with a teacher at Pensacola State College about possible student involvement in researching the "Scortched Earth" stuff and the chase from the forts up to the Alabama line around Flomaton. Those are not part of most history lessons from the area. Big time loss of knowledge and anyone willing to take the plunge into it
