Re: Americans divided
Edward,
Thanks for the reply. I took it differently in terms of issues that divided Americans in comparison with Lincoln and say Bush and Obama. With Lincoln it was Pro-slavery v.s.anti-slavery, pro- union v.s. pro-secession, North v.s.South compared to today where it is pro-war v.s. anti-war, Gay rights v.s. anti-gay rights, Christian v.s. other religions, Gun control v.s. anti-gun control, Rich v.s. poor, public schooling v.s. homeschooling, abortion v.s. anti-abortion, woman's rights, immigration, the economy, capitalism v.s. socialism,Globalism v.s. anti-globalism, animal rights, legalization of marijuana,... on and on and on. Bring up any one of these issues at the dinner table,a college or highschool class, family reunion ect. and watch the polarizing effect it has. To me, despite what the rhetoric may be, I see a more divided nation more now than Lincoln ever faced. Apples and oranges???
