Sure, however, there is for certain John Browns Raid and the reaction of the abolitionist to his death, putting him into a martyr status, that would increase the likelyhood of copy-cat actions by others.

Why haven't we heard more about these event? Maybe history lost a great many of would-be historians during the war; the heart of the much of the history of the Civil War too, was lost with the deaths of over 600,000 men in battle, and the 100s of thousands more civilians in the years during and after the war. For instance, the history of Pickets charge will always be questioned due to the loss of so many officers leading the attack, their reports were never written.
