However, this I do know, I have actually read some history text which say that the Civil War was fought to preserve slavery in the south. Please do not ask me to furnish the text book edition, publication date, etc to prove this statement. I am over 80 years of age and have read the statement indicated above several times but obviously did not record the specific text book.
It is not my purpose to enter into a debate with you regarding the selection of school texts. I do know that it has been reported in several major newspapers recently that the texts which are selected by the Texas School System are generally accepted by most other states because of the lesser cost enjoyed by the publishers for massive printing of the texts.
This board is entitled News and Views and naturally there will be differing views on any subject. Thankfully this is a free country and each of us have the right to form our opinions based on our life experiences. I am positive that your life experience is entirely different from mine since apparently our life experience is separated by many years.
Thankfully teachers are willing to devote their life to educating children. In my immediate family there are teachers who retired after devoting their lives to education and there are other teachers with Master's degrees in education who are currently educating students. May God Bless each of you.
