Re: Thank the lord for General Ord...

There are a lot of unanswered questions in the whole story. One being why did the Feds let one of the 'gang' live but the rest were hanged, including Mary Surrat (not sure of the spelling)? Even if there were one who gave information, were they not just as guilty? So they allowed plea bargaining even in the death of the POTUS and other attacks and attempts to murder other high ranking officials? I've read somewhere that there was some communication with Jefferson Davis (in some code that Davis used) and Booth. There was a lot of finger pointing but when they had Davis in prison, and held him for trial, there was no connection made to this deed? I read somewhere else that the order was given to take Booth alive but the soldier shot him anyway. Could he have been given some secret order? It's one of those things that has a life of its own and gets more involved when people try to add pieces to the puzzle that may not have been part of it.
I can see that maybe there was a 'price' on Lincoln's life during the war but just after it was over, even with hurt feelings and tempers flaring they had to know it would do more harm than good at that point.
