You need to keep in mind that this is TV, and both Discovery and History Channel are not above doing their share of "reality TV." Having had a daughter featured on "American Idol" a few years ago, I can vouch for the fact that the operative word in "reality TV" is NOT "reality."

Jesse James was probably blamed for every bank robbery that happened while he was alive, whether he was within 500 miles or not. And you can figure the bank president inflated the amount stolen by a factor of several, whatever the case. I wouldn't put much faith in any figures given for how much Jesse stole, or buried, no matter how legitimate they might seem.
